Individual therapy, also known as psychotherapy or counseling, involves a therapeutic relationship between one of our trained mental health professionals and you. This one-on-one setting will provide you with a safe space to explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors without judgment. The primary goals of individual therapy include: self-exploration, problem-solving, personal growth, and healing.
Family therapy, also known as family counseling, involves one of our trained therapists working with your family to address issues affecting the relationships. This form of therapy recognizes that individuals are best understood within the context of their family relationships. Whether your family is experiencing a recurring conflict, emotional distress, or major life transitions, family therapy aims to promote understanding and healing. The key goals of family therapy are: improving communication, resolving conflicts, strengthening relationships, and developing healthy effective coping strategies.
The therapeutic process of both individual and family therapy will involve an intake assessment, establishing trust, setting goals, and therapeutic techniques.
Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) is an evidence-based treatment designed to improve the relationship between parents and their young children while addressing emotional and behavioral challenges. Although typically used with children ages 2 to 7, we also offer PCIT Older Child Adaptation for ages 7.5-10. PCIT focuses on enhancing positive parent-child interactions, increasing child compliance, and reducing disruptive behaviors such as tantrums, defiance, and aggression.
PCIT has been shown to reduce child behavior problems, improve emotional regulation, and increase positive parent-child attachment. It also helps parents feel more confident and effective in managing their child’s behavior. The skills learned in PCIT are designed to create lasting, positive changes in both the child’s behavior and the overall family dynamic.
In PCIT, parents are coached in real time by a trained and certified PCIT therapist while they engage in play or structured interactions with their child. The therapist guides parents on how to use specific skills to strengthen warmth, trust, and effective communication, as well as consistent and calm discipline strategies.
Couples counseling is a therapeutic process facilitated by one of our licensed therapists who specializes in relationships. The goal is to create a safe environment where both you and your partner can express feelings, concerns, and aspirations in a very neutral and nonjudgmental space. Couples counseling focuses on the following, but not limited to: communication issues, conflict resolution, trust and intimacy, and life transitions.
The couples counseling process starts with an initial assessment that will review the history of your relationship, current issues and concerns, and individual backgrounds and experiences. After the assessment, your therapist will then begin assisting you and your partner in setting therapy goals and provide therapeutic sessions encouraging you and your partner's participation in communication skills strategies, conflict resolution strategies, and emotionally focused therapy.
Our ADHD assessment is an evaluation process that aims to determine whether you or your child are experiencing symptoms of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). This assessment typically involves a multi-faceted approach, drawing upon input from various sources to gain a thorough understanding of you or your child’s cognitive, behavioral, and functional abilities. At the start, our trained licensed mental health counselor will conduct an assessment focused solely on Executive Functioning, you or your child’s developmental history, current symptoms, and any impairments you or your child may be experiencing throughout daily life. This discussion provides crucial insights into the onset, duration, and severity of potential ADHD-related challenges, and will be followed up with assessment results and ADHD psychoeducation.
The assessment will include the licensed mental health counselor making a well-informed determination about whether you or your child meets the diagnostic criteria for ADHD. This assessment process ensures that any ADHD diagnosis is grounded in a thorough person-centered evaluation, paving the way for targeted, evidence-based therapies and support, as well as any needed educational supports.
